Medicare Health Insurance Time-line
3 Months prior to turning 65 go to ssa.gov and signup for Medicare Parts A (Hospital) & B (Physicians). Should you choose to stay on an employer plan, you will sign up for Part A (Hospital) only unless you currently have an HSA. You cannot have an HSA with an employer plan and have Medicare. If you are currently on disability your Medicare Card is generated automatically without you applying for it.
3 Weeks after you apply for your Medicare Card it will come to you via USPS. Once you receive your card call Paula 817-905-4916 to setup a consultation. There is not a fee for the consultation. During the consultation Paula will breakdown how Medicare works so you are comfortable with your choices.
Once you have made a decision as to which type of Medicare plan you want, Paula will help you through the application process which could take one to two hours. After the applications have been submitted to the insurance companies it takes two to three weeks to receive your health insurance cards in the mail. Your insurance will start the first day of your birth month.
